Have you ever wondered what a resident’s life at The Highlands Assisted Living at Westminster Place is like on a day-to-day basis? How do they interact with their community, and what do they enjoy each and every day?

Assisted Living communities are full of support, social gatherings, wellness classes, and opportunities for residents to do what they love, whether it’s pursuing a hobby, taking a walk, or furthering their education.

Take a look at a day in the life of an Assisted Living resident at The Highlands at Westminster Place to see what exciting opportunities are available to them and how they make the most out of each day in their community.

A Day in the Life at The Highlands

Days can start bright and early at The Highlands at Westminster Place, with residents typically being awake and getting ready for the day between 8 and 8:30 a.m.

If the resident receives medication management or oversight, they’ll head to the wellness center so the on-site nurses can administer care. Then, the resident can head to the communal dining room for breakfast.

Residents at The Highlands have the option of eating in the dining room with others or getting food delivered but are strongly encouraged to go to the dining room to meet and converse with other residents.

“While you might think residents would get ‘cliquey,’ (remember high school days) sitting at the same ‘four top’ tables with the same residents, we have found they enjoy sitting anywhere and with any other resident,” said Brent Wieland, Director of Sales and Marketing at The Highlands Assisted Living.

After breakfast, residents have a myriad of activities they can attend. Many residents attend two to four per day. Some of the most popular activities include exercise and yoga classes, water aerobics, “Books Out Loud,” and Songs By Heart.

“There are many other programs and activities such as Chef’s Corner (cooking demonstrations), walking and book clubs, and for those interested in faith-based events, we have weekly communion, hymns and devotions, Bible studies and a choir group,” said Brent.

When considering the size of the community, it’s no wonder that Westminster Place is able to accommodate a multitude of activities and events in its robust programming.

Brent explained, “Westminster Place sits on a stunning 40-acre campus with several outdoor formal gardens, fountains, and secluded quiet spaces to just sit and relax, read a book, or whatever folks want to do in a lovely, peaceful setting.”

Residents also get to take advantage of their proximity to Chicago. The community schedules trips to attractions like the Chicago Botanic Garden, the famous Ravinia outdoor music venue, B’hai temple, and more.

While there are  many ways to be involved and participate in the community, residents also have plenty of ways to relax and unwind. There are two on-site salons where residents can get a massage, pedicure or manicure.

“All residents of Westminster Place have access to every part of the community, including dining venues, fitness studios, the swimming pool, multiple libraries, and family rooms,” said Brent.

Every day at The Highlands offers residents something new – whether that’s enjoying the amenities, attending a fun event, or sharing a meal with friends. With excellent care and a welcoming community at their fingertips, residents feel right at home at The Highlands.
