The holiday season is nearly here, and everyone at The Moorings of Arlington Heights is excited for all the festivities that make this time of year so special. With beautiful decorations, fun gatherings, and entertaining performances, residents, staff, and friends of the community are getting ready for a season of cheer and celebration.

Tara DeLuca, Director of Community Programs at The Moorings of Arlington Heights, talks about everything to look forward to at the senior living community in Arlington Heights, IL.

“Holidays are a wonderful time here at The Moorings because of the warm and kind atmosphere created by the residents and staff, the decorations, and the many happenings – some longtime traditions and others fresh and new.”

Holiday Traditions at The Moorings

The Moorings of Arlington Heights lights up with string bulbs illuminating the community outside and decorated trees glowing inside to put everyone in the holiday spirit.

Tara said, “We have a 7-foot tree in the main loggia, and we have a Tree Lighting Ceremony the first Friday of December following a much-anticipated performance by the Madrigal Singers of Rolling Meadows High School.”

That’s not the only holiday tree at The Moorings. They also have the Holiday Card Tree. This tree is in the hallway from the loggia that leads to the dining room where residents, staff and visitors can enjoy it when they pass by.

Tara explains, “This is where staff and residents are encouraged to share cards/holiday greetings with the whole community – it’s popular.”

In addition to spreading holiday cheer through the card tree, decorating the community is a group effort. “Many residents sign up to help decorate all the trees throughout the community. It really is a nice time with both staff and residents working on them together,” said Tara.

On Christmas Day, the dining team creates its own beautiful and special meal so residents can socialize over delicious food.

Festive Entertainment at The Moorings

Tara schedules holiday-focused music, lectures, and other forms of live entertainment in December.

In mid-December, residents can enjoy the Holiday Party in the loggia with appetizers and a band/vocalist. “Last year, we had a raffle of pieces of art residents made,” said Tara.

Another way residents join in on the holiday cheer is when The Arlingtones Barbershop Chorus performs at the community chapel. One of The Moorings’ residents is a member.

One of the best activities to do during the holidays is drive around the neighborhood and see the different light displays. At The Moorings, residents can take the “See the Holiday Lights” bus tour and do just that. Tara said, “Residents who no longer drive often take advantage of this and appreciate the opportunity.”

Everyone always looks forward to The Moorings Choir & Chimers’ Holiday Performance. “Residents love to see their friends/neighbors perform and enthusiastically support them,” said Tara.
