The Moorings Residents Create Their Own Olympics

Ted Lucore, a 10-year resident at The Moorings of Arlington Heights senior living community, isn’t waiting for the Paris Olympics to get excited about some healthy competition. This past August, he created a monthlong series of “Olympic” events for residents of the community, eager to get his friends moving.

Lucore truly put his heart into planning The Moorings Olympics, making sure the competition covered a wide variety of events, including swimming, horseshoes, bocce ball, frisbee golf, walking relays, and even board games. Dozens of residents joined in the fun.

It’s also been a fun opportunity for residents to take advantage of the newly completed outdoor sports court. Lucore shared that there was “an event for everyone!”

The main event, the water volleyball competition, took place on August 29, and CBS 2 Chicago caught up with Ted and the team at The Moorings to document the excitement.

The Moorings “Olympics” competition reflects the type of senior living community that’s been created here – one where there is ample opportunity to get involved, enjoy a sense of camaraderie, and share a true passion for building friendships and finding purpose.
