What’s the Community Like at The Moorings?
One thing you’ll notice right away when you step onto The Moorings’ campus is the welcoming atmosphere.
“[People are] friendly; they’re cheerful; everyone smiles as you walk down the halls,” said Gayle Richter, who lives with her husband George at The Moorings. “It’s a very friendly, family-feeling atmosphere.”
And there are plenty of opportunities to meet and befriend other residents at The Moorings, too. Below are just some of the activities and amenities you’ll find here that can foster a sense of connection:
- Fun and educational events (past ones have included the First Ladies Luncheon and the Villa Walk).
- A full library, on-campus fitness center and pool, and chapel.
- Plenty of green space for walking or just soaking up the sun.
- Regular off-campus activities with provided transportation.
- Volunteer opportunities on campus and in the Arlington Heights area.
Best of all, there’s something for everyone, says resident Arlyle Ferguson: “If you want to be active, you can be active. If you don’t want to, you don’t have to.”

Who Will My Neighbors Be?
Whether you choose to live in one of our stylish villas or a cozy, convenient apartment, you’ll be surrounded by like-minded people who can’t wait to meet you.
“In a regular neighborhood, you might know your next-door neighbor or the one across the street. But for the most part, we know everybody on the campus,” said George.
Many residents at The Moorings had past careers in the education field, so it’s no surprise that lifelong learning is a common interest on campus. Volunteering is another pursuit that many residents share.
Gayle said she enjoys talking with the other residents and hearing their stories.
“What we all represent is our past, and that’s really interesting,” she said. “If somebody new happens to be seated with us at dinner or an activity, it’s just fun to talk to them.”
