For more than 30 years, The Moorings of Arlington Heights has provided high-quality living options for older adults in the Greater Chicago area. With robust programming, diverse opportunities for engagement, a full continuum of care, and a reputation for providing seniors peace of mind as their needs may change, there has been an apparent and vocal desire for more Independent Living residences.

To meet this increased demand, Presbyterian Homes and The Moorings of Arlington Heights began exploring what it would mean to add additional Independent Living residences to the community. Working alongside Perkins Eastman, Plante Moran, Skender, and other consultants, the team is now in the early stages of plans for this proposed expansion.

This expansion will be a vital component of a renewal of the community and a continued affirmation of its commitment to helping seniors live better, longer.

The anticipated timeline for the project is still subject to change, but key milestones include:

  • May 2024 | Priority Deposits Begin
  • Spring 2025 | 10% Deposits for Interested Parties Begin
  • Spring/Summer 2026 | Construction Begins
  • Summer/Fall 2027 | Move-In for New Residences Begins

The expansion project was proposed to meet increased demand, as well as to maintain the community’s relevance now and for many years to come. This expansion is part of a long-term plan to serve more older adults in the community and show our commitment to help seniors live better, longer.

There are numerous benefits for all residents that come with this expansion plan. The new Independent Living residences are only one part of the improvements, which will span the entire campus.

The expansion also features a renewal of the dining spaces and common areas of the current Independent Living building, and a renovated entry sequence that will unify the two Independent Living buildings.

Approval was sought from the Board of Directors in early December 2023, before the proposed expansion project. At that time, our internal teams involved in the project immediately set to work with a communications plan to ensure transparency and visibility to all residents, families, and neighbors.

It is our commitment to our residents, both current and prospective, that our communications will continue to be timely and transparent as this project progresses.

Yes, the expansion will meet all new applicable sustainability code requirements. Presbyterian Homes is also going a step further to look at sustainable features that could be incorporated into the project. We are committed to making this project as sustainable as possible.
