Mary Fitzgerald
Executive Director, The Moorings of Arlington Heights
Mary Fitzgerald has been the executive director of The Moorings of Arlington Heights since September of 1992. She was named to the administration of Presbyterian Homes in September of 2000, following Presbyterian Homes' purchase of The Moorings from Advocate Health Care System.
As executive director, she oversees all departments of The Moorings of Arlington Heights, an accredited continuing care retirement community set on 45 acres. The Moorings serves the retirement and health care needs of more than 450 residents and includes independent living apartments and villas, a skilled and intermediate health care center, assisted living, rehabilitative care and adult day services. According to Fitzgerald, it is a great privilege to be part of the Presbyterian Homes family.
Fitzgerald is credited with obtaining Medicare certification for 88 skilled-nursing beds in The Moorings Health Center in 2001. She spearheaded the development of a distinct rehabilitation unit in 2002. This unit has gained a reputation for excellence in physical therapy outcomes for residents of The Moorings, as well as for community patients from the northwest suburbs.
Previously, Fitzgerald was one of eight chief executive officers of the Advocate Health Care System. Other former professional positions include: chief executive of the Illinois Attorney General's Nursing Home Division in Chicago, chief executive of the Illinois Medicaid Nursing Home Division, and chief executive officer of Addolorata Villa, all in Wheeling, IL.
Fitzgerald received her bachelor's degree in Sociology from Elms College in Massachusetts, and her master's degree in Education from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
She is a House of Delegates member of the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging and has earned a national certification in Nursing Home Administration from the American College of Healthcare Administrators.
